The Dandelion Rule

I remember when I was but a child

I was upset when someone I thought

I should believe told me dandelions

Were weeds, not flowers – yet nobody

Could ever explain why this was true,

It just was an adult tautology I was

Too young to understand or appreciate.

But even now, as an almost old man

Who still doesn’t think very highly of

Adult tautologies, I don’t understand

The world view that sees the most perfect

Of flowers as a weed. In fact, it is now

A very simple rule I encourage all to

Follow: do not believe anyone who would

Have you believe the absurdity that

A dandelion is a weed, for their heart

Is small and their soul is lost.
